Hola!
It has been such an exciting time for this Bronx Latina to finally put herself out there and start sharing the knowledge of movement with the world!!!!
Before I share with you my offerings, take a mindful moment for yourself by listening to the audio below:
Mindful moment is becoming aware of what is going on in the present within our thoughts, feelings, and body.
Find a comfortable seated position
Roll your shoulders up and away from your ears
Take a deep breath in through your nose and out your mouth softly - 3 times
Notice how your body and mind are feeling in the present moment. Try not to judge but notice what happens in the body.
You can come back to this practice of awareness at any time.
This was a mindful moment. Taking a moment to breathe and check in can help bring calmness to our nervous system, especially during this time of year. So much is going on and we lose ourselves in the process. It’s so important to give ourselves a moment to pause and let our bodies soften and be present even if it’s for a moment.
As we move into the last month of 2022 the gift-giving/end-of-year season. This is the time of year when tensions rise in the body and mind. There’s so much to do and so little time to do it.
It has become a mad dash to shopping, planning, multitasking, and doing everything but enjoying the moment.
The holidays can bring up many emotions from excitement to frustration to stress, and even sadness. Remember, not all of us have joyous memories to celebrate. Some people have pain and trauma to remember which is why I advocate for grace and mindfulness as much as possible during these next few weeks.
Emotions are not just thought of in our minds and felt in our hearts. They are also experienced in our bodies.
Notice what happens when you are stressed we tend to squeeze body parts or we hold our breath. After a while, our body is in a continual state of alert and does not rest.
Do you want to feel rested, calmer and flexible in your body to deal with everyday stressors?
I’m sure you have heard either from your friend or a magazine article suggesting that yoga can help with calming the mind and help support the body to release tension. Usually, the response is rolling of the eyes with a response like I don’t have the time, I am not flexible enough or it is just not for me.
I have heard these responses as long as I’ve been teaching since 2012, which is why I’ve been so compelled to show up in the yoga world as my authentic BX Boricua self because I like my yoga with some sofrito! 😉
When I first stepped into a Bronx Yoga Studio that was being run by Latinos, I finally felt seen. The misconceptions I had about this practice, who was it for, and how it can benefit me changed once I started to take classes.
Once I decided to take the teacher training at the studio and begin teaching. I wasn’t the only one who felt yoga wasn’t “for us” because of how inaccessible it was.
First, there was the physicality of yoga. My body, and many of my peers, are shaped differently. Some of us are curvy, older, and with limited mobility. Not to mention, when I saw how transformational this practice could be why WOULDN’T I want to bring it to my Abuelita and her crew?
I began to wonder…is healing only for young abled bodies white women with the resources to seek it out as a hobby?
Many of us had that feeling that yoga classes weren’t for us due to our inflexibility or could not afford it. Ever since then it has been my mission to bring the practice of yoga too has many programs in the Bronx and upper Manhattan.
That is why Lofty Heights Movement aims to change the perception that there are barriers that exist to living a healthy lifestyle. It’s important for me to create a supportive, accessible, and inclusive environment where each individual is seen and heard.
A Lofty Heights Movement Inclusive Yoga class solely focuses on the individuals’ goals and the body meets them where they are at the present moment.
This session would combine asana (yoga poses) and meditation with helping engage your mind-body connection with ease.
This is your opportunity to integrate yoga within your lifestyle so you can build strength and confidence at your own pace.
Benefits:
Increase circulation to internal organs and glands
Quiets the nervous system
Improves concentration
Why AM I telling you this? During this holiday season, gift yourself time to focus on yourself. A moment to rest, breathe and stretch the body, so you have the support needed to calm your nervous system when it’s getting stressful or have enough energy to do all the Christmas shopping. Don’t put yourself last this season. You are just as important as those you take care of.
As part of the Lofty Heights Movement, I created offerings to support your wellness and healing throughout the year.
It just so happens that my rebrand launch coincided with the holiday season. 🤓
Purely coincidence…I’m sure. 🤫
My signature movement class is called Inclusive Yoga.
This is for anyone who wants to either get an introduction to yoga or recommit to their yoga practice. I call them inclusive because I work with you and your body, wherever you are at. Not only do we do your classes via Zoom but I factor in any accommodations that need to be made so you can feel comfortable and confident in your movement.
These are also hybrid sessions. They are not your typical yoga classes. I infuse coaching and mindfulness work into the hour so you can have an immersive experience that integrates your mind, body, and spirit with your healing journey.
Inclusive yoga is suitable for all ages and physical conditions. They also make great gifts for anyone you know who could use some support with their wellness practice.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and say HOLA!
I’m here in the BX waiting for the weather to act like it knows what’s up.
Stay in the flow and breath!
Cojelo con calma,
Jazy
